ChatGPT is not the answer to everything — here are better tools for specific jobs

ChatGPT deserves its reputation. And its limitations.

ChatGPT is genuinely impressive. But "use ChatGPT for everything" has become the AI equivalent of "just Google it." It's not wrong exactly — it's just lazy advice.

Here are eight jobs where a dedicated tool beats it.

1. Generating images → Midjourney or Ideogram

DALL·E 3 inside ChatGPT is decent. Midjourney is in a different league for quality. Ideogram is better for text-in-images. If visuals matter to your work, use a dedicated image tool.

2. Coding → Cursor or GitHub Copilot

ChatGPT can write code. But it can't see your codebase, understand your file structure, or refactor across files. Cursor does all of that inside your editor.

3. Research with sources → Perplexity

ChatGPT makes things up. Confidently. Perplexity pulls from the live web and cites every claim. For anything factual, use Perplexity.

4. Transcribing audio/video → Whisper or Descript

You can upload audio to ChatGPT but it's clunky. Whisper (via API) and Descript are purpose-built for transcription and speaker labeling.

5. Automating repetitive tasks → Zapier AI or Make

ChatGPT can describe an automation. Zapier and Make can actually run it — across hundreds of apps, on a schedule, without you touching a thing.

6. Long-form writing → Claude

ChatGPT's context window has improved but Claude handles very long documents and complex multi-part instructions more reliably. For anything over 2,000 words, Claude is worth trying.

7. Presentations → Gamma or Beautiful.ai

ChatGPT can outline a presentation. Gamma turns that outline into a fully designed deck in one click. Not even close in terms of output you can actually use.

8. Customer support → Intercom Fin or Freshdesk AI

You could build a support bot with ChatGPT. Or you could use a tool that already has ticket management, CRM integration, and handoff logic built in.

ChatGPT is the best general-purpose AI tool. General-purpose is the key phrase. When you have a specific job, find the tool built for that job.
